Factory Sunroof, One of a Kind

This remarkable 1967 Shelby GT500 isn’t just a showstopper—it’s a true piece of Mustang history. Unlike any other GT500 on the road, this car was a one-off prototype developed by the Ford Design Studio to explore the idea of a factory sunroof option. Rather than a crude retrofit, the roof features a hand-cranked sunroof mounted into a factory-stamped flange, not a cutout—proof of its original design intent and engineering legitimacy.

After Ford determined the sunroof was too costly to produce as a factory option, the car was quietly sold to a Ford employee. Years later, the current owner acquired the vehicle directly from him—preserving its story, originality, and historical significance.

At Mustang Craftsmen, we treat vehicles like this with the reverence they deserve. From its unique roofline to its unmistakable Shelby styling and performance pedigree, this GT500 stands in a class of its own—a true prototype that never made it to production, now preserved and showcased as the one-of-one Shelby it is.
