1965 Mustang Fastback Original Owner Detroit Area

As part of a Mustang restoration we begin welding on repair panels after media blasting.

We get the metal work as close as possible.

A skim coat of filler 1/8 inch or less is used to make a flat surface on the panels.

A fresh coat of the original Caspian Blue for this Mustang restoration.

Original Owner, Detroit Legacy

This 1965 Mustang Fastback is more than just a classic—it’s a time capsule from the Motor City itself. Still owned by its original Detroit-area owner, this car carries with it nearly six decades of personal history and American automotive heritage.

When it arrived at Mustang Craftsmen, our goal was clear: honor the story while restoring the soul. We performed careful body and paint work, preserving as much of the original metal as possible while bringing back the crisp lines and bold presence that made the Fastback an instant icon. Every detail was handled with respect for its legacy—from matching the factory paint code to preserving the VIN-tagged parts that still tell its story.

This project is a great example of why we do what we do. It’s not just about restoring a Mustang—it’s about preserving a piece of someone’s life, and a chapter of Detroit’s muscle car legacy. We’re proud to be part of this car’s journey, and even prouder to return it to the road looking as strong as the day it left the showroom in 1965.
