Very common floor, front torque box, and lower firewall rust. We are used to this.
We take frame measurements then repair the frame first. Later we replace the sheet metal.
We only replace the metal that is rusted. We save as much of the original metal as possible.
Usually it’s most cost effective to replace the entire floor. Also it improves structural integrity rather than patch the floor. There are over 200 spot welds that have to be removed.
Another common place for rust. Cowl replacement.
Replacement panels need to be fitted. Unlike original panels reproduction panels are made from dies that are not from Ford so they need rework to make them fit.
Every panel needs to be block sanded then primed then the primer needs to be block sanded to make the paint flat.
We repair and paint the body on a rotisserie which allows full access, factory correct repairs, and complete painting.
We build each car the way the client wants. Stock, upgrades, or custom. This owner wants a custom front valence, Shelby hood, side scoops, and custom stripes.
This 1965 A-Code Mustang Convertible came to Mustang Craftsmen from Ohio, carrying with it both originality and potential. With its factory 289 V8 and clean convertible chassis, it was the perfect candidate for a restoration that would celebrate the spirit of the first-generation Mustang while elevating it to a whole new level of craftsmanship and drivability.
As an original A-Code car, it deserved more than just a cosmetic refresh—it required precision, authenticity, and a deep understanding of what makes early Mustangs so special. Our process began with complete disassembly and evaluation. The body was stripped and refined, the panels realigned, and the entire car was repainted to perfection, bringing the iconic lines of the ’65 convertible back to life.
Under the hood, the factory-correct 289 V8 was rebuilt for performance and reliability. The drivetrain and suspension were restored to ensure smooth handling and enjoyable cruising—true to its heritage, but with modern dependability. Inside, the interior was reimagined using period-correct materials, capturing the elegance and simplicity of the original convertible Mustang cabin.
From a trusted shop to a trusted car, this 1965 A-Code Convertible is on its way to becoming a show-worthy cruiser, built with care, precision, and deep Mustang knowledge. At Mustang Craftsmen, it’s not just about restoration—it’s about delivering the experience and results our clients dream of.
